I think I made it pretty clear that I love self care! Anything that’s gonna make me feel good is going first on my list. Sooooo with that being said, I decided to make my next date day a whole experience with my Bestfriend Nadia. Nadia who is a Full-time Mother, Wife, Daughter, and Kick Ass Corporate Woman decided to take me up on an adventure to check out a local salt cave. This was a first for us both, but I had read up on the benefits of salt lamps.
We purchased Groupons for the Mentor Salt Cave and booked our appointments. On the day of, I of course was running late so Nad got started and made sure they knew I was coming. When I walked in I was overwhelmed by the fresh air inside. Yes...inside! I hurriedly took off my winter gear, hung up my coat, put away my boots, and put my stuff in a locker. Nadia was saving me a seat next to her so I grabbed a blanket, foot covers (too funny) and sat down to relax.
The room was overwhelmingly lit with glowing lamps made of Himalayan salt. It was chilly inside which is why they provide you with a blanket. I suggest you wear proper clothing and thick socks. We were given warm crystal balls to hold while we relaxed in the enclosed room for 45 minutes. After a brief overview about the history of the salt and the benefits, the door was shut and we were ready. On our headphones that were provided, we listened to soothing music of the waves crashing against the shore. I’m not sure when I went to sleep, but I drifted not too long after. Nad said she didn’t even realize she had fallen asleep until I woke her up lol.
Ok so here is when it gets real. I could breathe so clearly after the one session. I had been suffering from a stuffy nose all weekend so I was surprised that it was suddenly gone. My head felt lighter and I felt like my mood had shifted. Supposedly one session in a salt cave is equal to 3 days at the beach. The real proof of the session would show itself at night. Nadia and I both slept like babies. I take sleeping pills normally but didn’t that night so I could actually see if there was an improvement in my sleep.
So my final review...I’m going back. I’m sold. Sign me up! Hell everyone can buy me a salt lamp and I’ll plug all of them up around the house. I think the results are better if you have continuous sessions so I will definitely sign up for more. They also offer foot detoxes which pulls out the toxins in your body via your feet. I’ve had that done before and it’s really cool. This self care session only costs me $15 on Groupon. I was able to relax with my bestie and catch a nap. Sounds like a win to me! When and how will you plan your next self care date?

A reminder to book my yoga class at the salt cave!💜
